About Range Leather Hats

There are a lot of hats in the world. Most of them are forgettable. The Range Leather hat is the one people ask about.

We hear this constantly from our customers: they're wearing a Range hat somewhere — at work, at a game, out with friends — and a stranger stops them to ask where they got it. It happens because our hats look different from everything else on the rack. They're not blank blanks from a corporate supplier with an embroidered logo slapped on. They're structured, thoughtfully designed caps with genuine full-grain leather patches — cut, stamped, and applied by hand in our Laramie, Wyoming workshop.

The Leather Patch Is the Point

The thing that sets a Range hat apart from every other ball cap on the market is the patch. Not a woven patch. Not a printed patch. Not an iron-on. A genuine full-grain leather patch, hand-cut and finished in our workshop, mounted on a cap that's been selected for structure, fit, and durability.

Full-grain leather develops a patina over time. It weathers, softens, and takes on character — so a Range hat worn for a year looks even better than it did the day you bought it. Customers who've had their hats for years specifically call this out: "Great looking hat that lasts," and "the hat sells itself — people always ask where I got it."

That's what a leather patch does that fabric or plastic can't. It ages into the hat.

The Patch Is Made in Laramie, Wyoming

We want to be straightforward about how our hats are made, because we think you deserve to know. The cap blanks are sourced from Bangladesh — the same origin as most structured ball caps sold anywhere, including by brands charging two or three times what we charge. We're not trying to hide that.

What we do control — and where we put our real craft — is the patch. Every leather patch is cut, stamped, and applied by hand in our Laramie, Wyoming workshop, by the same people who build our bags and wallets. The design, the leather selection, the stamping, the finishing, the quality check before it ships: that happens here, by us. When you buy a Range hat, you're buying our leather work and our design on a well-built cap blank. That's the honest version of what it is, and we think it's worth it.

Designs That Mean Something

Our hat catalog isn't random. Every design has a reason to exist. The American Flag Hat — our best-selling hat by a wide margin, in a dozen colorways — is a straightforward statement: we're proud of where we're from, and we make things here. The Range Mountain Hat is for people who love the West, the outdoors, and the kind of landscape that reminds you you're small. The Buffalo Hat, the Trout Hat, the Steamboat Hat, the state silhouette series — each one is drawn from a real place or a real thing we care about.

We also collaborate with artists and photographers to create hats that are genuinely one-of-a-kind. When we work with a photographer, their image lives on the patch. That's not something you can get from any other hat company.

A Hat That Fits

Fit matters more than most hat brands will admit. Our customers consistently mention it: "Perfect fit for my head," "great quality and fit," "quality hats for a good price that fit well." We design our hats to sit right — not too shallow, not floppy, with a structured brim and a profile that looks intentional on your head, not like you just grabbed whatever was on the shelf.

The structured snapback fits a wide range of head sizes and holds its shape over time. The trucker-style mesh back keeps you cool in warm weather without sacrificing the profile. If you've ever bought a hat that looked great on a model and deflated the moment you put it on, you know what we're solving for.

Hats for Everyone (But Especially People Who Hate Generic Hats)

Our hat customers are evenly split between men and women, spanning their 20s through their 60s. They skew toward people who have strong opinions about quality, who prefer small American businesses over big brands, and who want something that reflects where they're from or what they care about — not just a logo they're supposed to recognize.

A significant portion of our hat orders are gifts. We get this from returning customers who come back specifically to buy another hat for someone else: a son, a husband, a brother, a coworker. A Range hat is the kind of gift that photographs well, arrives feeling substantial, and gets worn — not hung on a hook. If you're buying for someone else, you probably already know it's a good call.

The Forever Guarantee

Every hat we make is backed by our Forever Guarantee. If something fails — the patch delaminates, the hardware breaks, a seam gives out — we'll make it right. This isn't a common offer in the hat category, and we mean it the same way we mean it for our leather goods. We stand behind everything that leaves our shop.

Why Range Leather Hats?

Because the hat you wear every day should be worth wearing. Because a leather patch cut and stamped in a Wyoming workshop ages better than a screen print. Because the American Flag Hat with a hand-finished full-grain leather patch is a better hat than anything you'll find at a big box store, at triple the price. And because when someone stops you and asks where you got it, you should have a good answer.

What makes Range Leather hats different from other ball caps?

The difference is the patch. Range Leather hats are fitted with genuine full-grain leather patches — hand-cut, stamped, and applied in our Laramie, Wyoming workshop — rather than the woven, printed, or embroidered patches found on most hats. The cap blanks themselves are quality structured snapbacks sourced from Bangladesh, the same origin as most ball caps on the market. What we add is the leather: full-grain Horween hide that develops a patina over time, meaning a Range hat gets more character with wear instead of looking faded or worn out. Customers who've worn Range hats for years consistently say they still look better than the day they arrived — and that strangers regularly stop them to ask where they got it.

Are Range Leather hats made in the USA?

Partially — and we want to be clear about what that means. The cap blanks are sourced from Bangladesh, which is standard across the hat industry, including most brands you'd recognize. What happens in Laramie, Wyoming is the part we control and take pride in: every leather patch is cut, stamped, and hand-applied in our workshop by our team. The leather itself is the same full-grain Horween hide we use in our bags and accessories. So the honest answer is: the blank comes from overseas, the leather craft is ours, done here, in Wyoming. We'd rather tell you that plainly than let you assume something that isn't true.

What hat styles does Range Leather make?

Our hat catalog includes structured snapback ball caps with full-grain leather patches in a range of designs: the American Flag Hat (our most popular, available in more than a dozen colorways), the Range Mountain Hat, the Buffalo Hat, the Trout Hat, the Steamboat Hat, the Texas Silhouette Hat, Texas Flag Hat, state and regional silhouette styles, artist collaboration hats, and others. We regularly add new designs and colorways. If you're looking for something specific — a state, a design theme, or a custom collaboration — reach out and ask.

What colorways are Range hats available in?

Our hats come in a wide range of colorway combinations — Black, Charcoal/Black, Navy, Navy/White, Brown/Khaki, Khaki, Heather Gray/Black, Heather Gray/White, Coyote Brown/Black, Moss/Khaki, Green Camo/Black, and others depending on the design. The American Flag Hat has the widest colorway selection. Availability by colorway varies by design — check individual product pages for current options. If a colorway you want is out of stock, we do restock regularly, and you can sign up for restock notifications on the product page.

How does the leather patch hold up over time?

Very well. The patches are cut from full-grain leather, which is the most durable grade of leather — not split, not bonded, not a synthetic — and they're applied with a method built to last. Customers who have worn their hats daily for a year or more report no separation, fading, or deterioration. In fact, full-grain leather is unique in that it improves with wear: it develops a patina, softens slightly, and takes on a finish that reflects how it's been used. One customer noted their hat still had no sweat stains after a year of daily wear. If anything does go wrong with the patch or the hat, our Forever Guarantee covers it.

Do Range Leather hats fit most head sizes?

Yes. Our structured snapback design fits a wide range of head sizes and holds its shape over time. The snapback closure adjusts across a broad range, and the structured profile keeps its form — it won't collapse or lose shape after a few wears the way unstructured caps can. Fit and comfort are consistently among the most-mentioned positive qualities in customer feedback: "perfect fit,""great quality and fit," and "quality hats that fit well" are recurring descriptions. If you're between sizes or have a hard-to-fit head, reach out and we can help.

Are Range Leather hats a good gift?

Among the most popular gifts we sell, yes. A large share of our returning hat customers come back specifically to buy a hat as a gift — for a son, husband, father, brother, or friend. The hats photograph well, arrive feeling substantial, and get worn rather than shelved. The leather patch and the Wyoming craft story give it a natural conversation starter. If you want to make it more personal, reach out about whether custom design options are available for your order. The Forever Guarantee also makes it a gift you can stand behind — if anything isn't right, we'll make it right.

What is the Forever Guarantee on Range Leather hats?

Our Forever Guarantee means we stand behind every hat we make, indefinitely. If the patch fails, a seam goes, or hardware breaks under normal use, contact us and we'll repair or replace it. This is the same guarantee we offer on all our leather goods — it's not a limited warranty with an expiration date or fine print. We offer it because we build things to last, and because we think a guarantee should actually mean something.

What is the leather patch on Range hats made from?

The patches are cut from full-grain leather — the same grade we use in our bags and accessories. Full-grain leather is the outermost, strongest layer of the hide, left intact without sanding or correction. It's more durable than top-grain or bonded leather, and it develops a patina over time rather than cracking or peeling. Every patch is cut, stamped, and hand-applied in our Laramie, Wyoming workshop. The cap blanks are sourced from Bangladesh — standard across the industry — but the leather work is entirely ours, done in-house by the same craftspeople who build our bags and wallets.
